Summer BBQ

In June we held our Summer BBQ at the home of Phil and Angela Barnes. The weather and food were lovely and we all enjoyed their garden. Thank you very much Phil and Angela for your hospitality.

Shows, Liskeard and Launceston Shows

Our group attended both these local agricultural shows and there was plenty of interest. Phil organised the equipment and Hannan helped out during the day. At Liskeard our group won the best trade stand exhibit and Phil came home with an enormous silver cup. Well done to everyone who helped out with the shows.

If you would like to come along next year on the stand, please let Phil Barnes know for future reference.

Summer Pruning

In August a small group visited Phil Barnes for a workshop on how to do summer pruning. Phil had partly completed his pruning but left some trees as an example of how to do it.

Scything demonstration

Hannan Currah, one of our group members, did a scything demonstration at Carol Horsington’s farm using an Austrian scythe. Hannan is running some workshops in August and September so if you are interested in attending contact Hannan direct at sylvaandscythe@gmail.com

Apple Day Saturday 4th October 11am to 4pm

You may have already heard that the hall in Upton Cross is out of action for a while and we are unable to hold our Apple Day there this year. Thankfully Sterts is able to help and we will move the event next door to Sterts and it will still be in Upton Cross.

We will need help both outside with the pressing and car parking and also inside with the Orchard Group stand. If you are able to help, please let Dave Barker (pressing) or Carol Horsington know.

Equipment hire

The equipment has now been PAT tested and Dave Barker is ready to take bookings for hire. With the hot weather many are saying they have a bumper crop of fruit and also it is ready early this year.
